William F. Cody, "Buffalo Bill," is perhaps best remembered as a storyteller. Born on the prairie in 1846, he took part in many of the events that shaped the American West. He later put the epic western experience into an orderly narative he called Buffalo Bill's Wild West. By the turn of the twentieth century, he was probably the most famous American in the world.
