This little bison loves to run and play! Did you know that the Buffalo that Americans refer to is actually a Bison? It is also called the American Buffalo. It is the heaviest land animal in North America. It lives in parks and reserves, inhabiting flat grasslands. Bison stand some 5-6.5 ft (1.5-2 m) tall at the shoulder, and can tip the scales at over a ton (907 kg). Despite their massive size, bison are quick on their feet. When the need arises, they can run at speeds of up to 40 miles (65 km) an hour. They sport curved, sharp horns that may grow to be 2 ft (61 cm) long. These herbivores (plant-eaters) graze on grass, twigs and shrubs. They swallow their food without chewing it and later regurgitate a cud and chew it. Measures approximately 8".
