Artist William R. Leigh (1866-1955) accompanied Cody guides Fred Richard and Ned Frost on a bear hunt to obtain a specimen for a Colorado museum. Their hunting dogs cornered the grizzly, and in the excitement, Richard fell. Although the bear did not harm him, it gave Leigh the idea to include the fallen hunter in his painting. The original painting is in the Whitney Gallery of Western Art collection. Image measures 16" x 24".
