W.H.D. Koerner (1878-1938) was a successful East Coast illustrator and and one of the few artists to portray frontier women. This painting The Homesteaders was the introductory image for Rose Wilder Lane's Let the Hurricane Roar, an account of the life of her mother, Laura Ingalls Wilder, published by the Saturday Evening Post in 1932. The painting portrays the Ingalls family with baby Laura. The caption reads, "Carolyn took the baby and walked across the slough to the field where Charles was plowing." This reproduction was created from the original located in the Whitney Gallery of Western Art. Dimensions are 15 1/2" x 10 3/4".  #31016683
