William F. "Buffalo Bill" Cody (1849-1917) spent his early years as a plainsman, soldier, and Army Scout, and earned the nickname "Buffalo Bill" by hunting to provide buffalo meat to Kansas railroad workers. Cody would become most well-known, though, for his traveling entertainment, Buffalo Bill's Wild West.
