The Covered Wagon was made famous when a canvas top was added to a farm wagon and used by early settlers who migrated to the west. The settlers usually travelled in groups, starting in early spring, for the six-month journey. Recommended supplies for a family of (4) were, 800 lbs. flour, 700 lbs. bacon, 200 lbs. beans, 200 lbs. lard, 100 lbs. dried fruit, 75 lbs. coffee and 25 lbs. salt and pepper. Also needed were cooking and eating utensils, guns, ammunition, clothing and personal items and if weight allowed, furniture. The Covered Wagon were pulled by 6 mules or oxen.
